Providing troops with equipment & food supply is paramount in a conflict.
Logistic issues could lead to deadly consequences and hence it has been given its due by military planners over the years.

In World War I, motorized transport and railroads lent logistical support to all major combatants. For Germany, at the outset of the war, its extensive railroad network built for both commercial and military logistical purposes gave them significant benefits in carrying out the opening offensive on the Western Front.

World War II further improved mechanized transport with all of the technologies of World War I undergoing significant enhancements. Light armored vehicles, Tanks and trucks provided the means by which the German, British, Soviet and American forces moved huge numbers of troops and material across thousands of kilometers in Europe, North Africa and Asia.
It also saw the supply of goods through sea routes.

If we look at the current situation apart from road, rail, and sea - several nations have deployed large cargo aircraft to supply war materials since it is much faster. But Pentagon wants to take this to the next level with the help of Space X.
