Williams studied political science buy dropped out of college to pursue acting. He got a full scholarship to attend Julliard School. He also left Julliard numerous philanthropic endeavors. Influenced by Jonathan Winters, Peter Sellers, Nichols and May, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce. He specialized in Improvisational skills and in his Actors Studio interview he revealed creating 52 distinct personalities improvising the character of the Genie, most of the material was not Disney friendly. Williams hung himself at the age of 63 on August 11 2014, an autopsy revealed the presense of Lewy Body Dimentia, associated with Parkinson's, a prior diagnosis not shared publicly. He struggled with alcohol and other drug abuse, particularly cocaine and the birth of his son Zak and his friend Jim Belushi's death by overdose was a wakeup all for him and he credits cycling as helping save his life. He checked into rehab in 2006 an 2014 for alcohol use but claimed to never return to cocaine bashing the drug use for making him "paranoid and impotent, what fun... uselesss conversations until midnight waking up at dawn feeling like a vampire on a day pass." He was suffering from severe depression late in his life and was on Anti-Depressants. Comedian Marlon Wayans, a friend of Williams, claimed he belived the suicide was caused my anti depressants [link]. Prozac and other SSRIs have been linked to suicide. Hard to be depressed when you die I suppose, but pretty depressing for the rest of us.
