2021: A New Kind of Astronomy by Mark Iscaro, ASV
The May 2021 General Meeting of the Astronomical Society of South Australia will feature a talk about Astronomy during COVID-19 and how the Astronomical Society of Victoria dealt with COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne, learnt to pivot, and shared Astronomy with the wider public through online mediums. The talk will cover live streaming star parties, working with smartphone cameras, Astrophonetography, and dealing with sudden lockdowns impacting scheduled events.
Bio: Mark got into Astronomy as a child but never followed through with his interest until his son Blake developed a keen interest at the age of 6 and joined the ASV in 2014 when he was only 8 years old. Mark's interest and passion for Astronomy also grew at that time to the point that he is now the ASV General Secretary and works with the social media team to create online live events, in-person events and pushes the society into new event styles in order to promote Astronomy and the ASV to the greater public. His main interest in Astronomy is deep-sky observing with a mix of Astrophonetography.
