In the last two years, two crises have shaken us: Corona and the Ukraine war. Suddenly, the world was a different place. However, such events are always an invitation to reflect on what really counts in life: bad times are good times for focusing on what really counts. when I look back on my life so far, it wasn't plans that were responsible for what I am today. Rather, it was events in my life that demanded a decision. These decisions often required courage. Dare to take such leaps of heart. They are what life is all about.
The neurons in the frontal brain store new experiences by making connections among themselves, especially when they are accompanied by a strong emotion. Only when new experiences are regularly had and intense emotions are felt, do new connections form. Trying new ways and expanding our comfort zone is therefore one of the best things we can do. The fact that we may make mistakes in the process is not a bad thing. On the contrary, detours increase our sense of place. We perceive mistakes as a disturbance, but it is precisely in this disturbance that the value of the mistake lies.
Mistakes demand creative solutions to problems. By shaking the firmly established view of the world, mistakes open up new paths, they give us the chance to learn, to grow, to change.
To do this, we need room to maneuver and the opportunity to step back and start over, if necessary. We are only free if we are allowed to make mistakes.
In the past two years, a lot of dishes have been smashed, the stress level of many people has risen. Especially in difficult and challenging times like these, kindness is a precious elixir of life. Be kind! Daniel Gobeli is dean of the business school in Thun and a passionate fan of the swiss dual education system. As a former foreign exchange trader, he has been a university lecturer in corporate development and management consulting for over ten years. He sees the transfer of knowledge as the main task of his work. With his strategy work, which is particularly aimed at small and medium-sized companies from industry and services, he supports companies in the basic planning and conception of their future.
