Jaeger-LeCoultre Gran'Sport Duo Luxury Watch Review

http://www.thewatchbox.com

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is JLC's corporate icon. Like the Submariner to Rolex or the Navitimer to Breitling, the Reverso is the one watch that symbolizes Jaeger-LeCoultre to the watch enthusiast fraternity.

And the Reverso Gran'Sport Duo is a member of JLC's first family of watches. Originally designed as a solution for boisterous British polo players in India (the reverse side of the watch was shatterproof steel, not glass), today's Reverso is a double-sided platform for additional complications.

The Reverso Gran'Sport Duo offers users two watches in one.

On the main dial, hours, minutes, seconds, and a jumping date provide the essential readings that owners expect of their "daily driver" watch. A helpful 24-hour indicator clarifies AM/PM status.

But rotate the famous Reverso case, and a second independent dial appears. When traveling, a second time zone can be displayed on the white reverse dial. Jaeger-LeCoutlre adds a 24-hour Day/Night display to clarify AM/PM status in this reference time zone. The pusher on the case flank toggles the hour hand on the white reference time dial. Reference time minutes are synched to the black local time dial on the opposite side of the case.

Jaeger-LeCoultre intended for the 1998-2005 Reverso Gran'Sport Duo to be a gateway Reverso for younger luxury watch buyers who had grown up with Rolex, Omega, and Breitling sports watches. The 50m water resistance greatly surpassed the 30m of the standard dress Reverso, and full stainless steel bracelets reinforced a more sporting aesthetic.

Due to limited Jaeger-LeCoutre distribution networks in their pre-Richemont (pre-2001 model year) years, the Gran'Sport line never had the exposure it required to really catch fire. The resulting rarity of these models makes them an attractive target for savvy collectors seeing future collectibles.

This Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gran'Sport Duo is available from thewatchbox.com in like-new condition. See it in high-resolution images on www.thewatchbox.com. Video and content by Tim Mosso.
