Asiatischer Elefant (Elephas maximus)

From Taungoo (about 250 km north of Rangoon) we drove to a mountain village. We wanted to watch elephants clearing wood at a lumberjack camp.
Our guide was just as surprised that about 20 elephants with their mahouts, the guides, were already coming towards us in the mountain village. The working elephants all met at a covered platform for a health check. Each animal has a health book and the veterinarian as well as a representative from the local authority took their job very seriously.
And yet we were allowed to observe the examinations close to the animals for almost 3 hours.

But suddenly there was a call to leave.....
Von Taungoo aus, (etwa 250 km nördlich von Rangun) fuhren wir in ein Bergdorf. Wir wollten bei einem Holzfällercamp Elefanten beim Holzräumen zusehen.
Unser Guide war genauso überrascht, dass uns aber schon im Bergdorf etwa 20 Elefanten mit ihren Mahuts, den Führern, entgegenkamen. Die Arbeitselefanten trafen sich alle an einer überdachten Plattform zum Gesundheitscheck. Jedes Tier hat ein Gesundheitsbuch und der Tierarzt sowie auch ein Vertreter der örtlichen Behörde nahmen ihre Arbeit sehr genau.
Und trotzdem durften wir fast 3 Stunden nahe bei den Tieren die Untersuchungen beobachten.

Doch plötzlich wurde zum Aufbruch gerufen.....
