The Gotthard Pass (2,106 m / 6,909 ft) is a Mountain pass in The Alps. Connecting northern and southern Switzerland. The pass lies between Airolo in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, and Andermatt in the German-speaking canton of Uri.
The King of the Alpine Passes is the most famous entry gate to the south of Switzerland.
The Gotthard is probably the mountain about which there are the most myths and the most Swiss traffic history to be told. The history of the Gotthard route is one of the long struggle and triumph of men over wild nature.
If you travel over the Gotthard Pass , you get one of the most breathtaking views of Ticino.
On this there is a lookout point with a kiosk and terrace above Airolo
where you can take a break and enjoy the panorama over the Leventina.
