How to kill and remove Diesel Bug | Sailing Kejstral Adventures

How to kill and remove Diesel Bug is a short video showing how we dealt with the diesel bug on our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i.
After losing power multiple times on our passage from Tilos to Kos, we stripped down the fuel system to find bacteria growing in the tank, filters & traps. The only cure for such a bug is an additive that is put directly into the tank and left for 24 hours to work.
Once dead the system must be thoroughly cleaned, including traps, filters, fuel lines & diesel tank. The only part we didn’t do were the fuel lines, they will be replaced before we set sail in 2018.
As we were only a few miles from our home port we also waited until we were safely back in the marina before removing the tank and cleaning that.
I am sure there are many sailors out there who have experienced this problem and have dealt with it in numerous different ways. We wanted to show the procedure we used on our Sun Odyssey 36i, which covers where to find all the relevant parts, including removing them and cleaning them.
