Healed in Confession What No One Told Me About God’s Mercy
I used to think Confession was just about listing sins. I saw it as a duty, not a healing. I walked into the confessional burdened by guilt, and walked out feeling... not much. That’s because I didn’t yet understand the power of God's mercy waiting for me there.
Everything changed the day I went to Confession after being away for years. I was scared, ashamed, and convinced I was beyond forgiveness. I had sinned knowingly. I had ignored God, avoided Mass, and justified my behavior for so long that I believed there was no coming back.
But something nudged me—a quiet voice in my heart. It said: “Go back.”
When I finally entered the confessional, my heart was pounding. The priest gently welcomed me. He didn’t ask why I’d been away. He didn’t look shocked. He listened. Patiently. Kindly.
As I began to confess my sins, I felt something unexpected—a sense of release. It was as if each word lifted a weight off my shoulders. The priest then spoke not with judgment, but with love. He reminded me that no sin is greater than God’s mercy, and that Confession is not about humiliation—it’s about healing.
Then came the words that changed me forever:
“I absolve you from your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
At that moment, I felt clean. Not just emotionally lighter, but spiritually restored. My soul had been fractured, and now it was made whole. I walked out of that confessional not just forgiven, but transformed.
No one had ever told me that Confession could feel like a second baptism—like coming home after being lost in the wilderness. No one had told me how much love God pours into the soul during that sacrament. I had reduced Confession to a box of rules, when in truth, it is a fountain of grace.
Now I go regularly, not because I’m perfect, but because I know where healing is found. The more I go, the more I understand how deep and personal God’s mercy truly is.
🕊️ If you’ve been avoiding Confession, don’t wait any longer. Run to the Father. He is waiting—not to punish you, but to embrace you.
