𝄞 It's difficult to use standard chord progressions without creating a sense of storytelling, even if the music is instrumental. Often times as music creators we don't want to take the listener on a dramatic ride but instead want to simply establish a vibe and stay there, perhaps with a little movement to keep things interesting. This is something that gives the music of artists like Kiefer, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Omari Jazz, DOMi & JD Beck a combination of exciting textural and production development without leaving the vibe of the initial harmonic area. In this video we take a look at how to step outside the major and minor scale into the world of the Dorian Mode and how to approach chord progressions in a new way. Once we have some new approaches in mind, we'll build a LoFi HipHop Jazz beat out of two minor9 chords then develop them with Chord Voicings and Rhythmic Variations. Finally, we'll add guitar, a bass line, strings, and a funky Lead Melody. 𝄢
