How to make a digital marquee for your Custom Raspberry Pi Arcade Cabinet! Episode#13 LCD marquee!

In this very special episode, I show you how to make a digital marquee for your very own Custom Raspberry Pi Arcade Cabinet! With a slick looking black cabinet with chrome t molding, the original and colorful artwork of the digital marquee and bezel project really make this cabinet feel like the actual one (every time you switch to another game!)

The way this setup works is when you start the system (turn on both pi), the digital marquee pi will display a default .png picture or a default.mp4 video file (loops when video is over). Once you select a game to play in Retropie, the Retropie pi will send a message to the digital marquee pi asking it to display the same name .png picture. If there is an image and the name matches exactly, it will change the default picture/video to the games' marquee art. If the name doesn't match or there is no .png file, the digital marquee pi will not switch from the default picture/video.

Common problems with the picture not being displayed are that the picture is a .jpg or other type of picture file or the name matches but one file has extra characters in the name. For example it may be a Japanese version of the rom so it might say loopingj.rom instead of looping.rom.

If you have the marquee stop working after several weeks, you may have to look into a DHCP reservation on your router's homepage under the advanced settings. There you can force the router to not change the pi's ip address.

Items required:
- computer or tv to watch this video and pause as you do the process
- another computer or laptop to download ssh programs (remote entry)
- 2 raspberry pi that are capable of internet (WiFi) I used a rasp pi 3b+ for the retro pi and a rasp pi zero W for the digital marquee
- 2 sd cards (1 for retro pie pi and 1 for the digital marquee pi) and I recommend you buy at least 32G
- tv or monitor for arcade cabinet
- monitor for the digital marquee (I used an LG 29" Ultrawide monitor)
- keyboard for the pi
- power supplies and hdmi cables for both pi
- usb game pad controller or finished control panel with joystick/buttons
- cases for pi (optional)
- internet (duh)
- a couple uninterrupted hours to complete

I would like to give a huge shout out and thank you to Shaun Watson for all his work and his videos on how to make a lcd marquee. Without his work, I would not have been able to complete this cabinet and retain the Raspberry Pi. Please check out his channel (link below) and give him a like and a sub to follow his future videos!
