IDDSI Level 7 Easy to Chew — The Level They Added Later | SimplyThickJohn

Level 7 Easy to Chew wasn't in the original IDDSI framework.

After the first release, the industry identified a gap — a need for soft foods that weren't necessarily bite-sized. So IDDSI ran a global survey, collected feedback, and added a sublevel: Level 7 Easy to Chew.

Normal everyday foods. Soft and tender. Any utensil, fingers included. No size restriction — that's the big difference from Level 6.

No hard, tough, chewy, fibrous, stringy, crunchy, or crumbly foods. No seeds. No fibrous fruit parts. Easy to chew throughout.

Fork pressure test still applies — permanently deforms with light pressure. But the pieces can be much larger than the 15 by 15 millimeter limit at Level 6.

One caution — these pieces are large enough to fully block the airway. If someone is at increased choking risk, consult a clinician before using this level.
