Hanimex 300/5.6 mirror lens – the king of donut bokeh: top or flop?
*** My heart is broken about the events in Ukraine and my thoughts and wishes go to the people affected and threatened by the war. Please also see my YouTube community tab. ***
Hey! In this video, I'm checking out a truly tiny mirror lens from the 1970s. I haven't used that lens for maybe 15 years at all, so it's time to do so again! So follow me on this micro adventure and see what that donut bokeh is all about!
0:00 Intro
0:24 First sample shots
0:52 About this lens
2:23 More samples
2:54 In your hand
5:15 Optical quality & how to shoot with this lens
6:52 Bokeh
8:12 Why you need to shoot RAW and edit every shot
9:18 Verdict
10:51 Outro
----------------------------------------
Technical details:
All pics are shot with the 24 megapixel Fuji X-E3 edited to taste in Lightroom and exported with standard sharpness settings.
In the case of this mirror lens, the photos need a huge boost in contrast, saturation and heavy vignetting correction.
However, NONE of the photos is corrected for distortion and also NONE corrected for chromatic aberrations – those are clearly not the weak points of a mirror lens!
