High Side Inductive Switching with a N-Mosfet
When a coil is switched on the positive power supply side, A negative voltage Back EMF is generated, that can be stored in a capacitor and re-used in the circuit.
To switch the high side, with a N-Mosfet like the IRFP460A you need a little trick.
Often a gate drive pulse transformer is used, but these are difficult to make and tune.
With an isolated power supply (battery) that is referenced to the source of the mosfet, you can power a pulse generator and gate drive IC, to switch the gate, and be able to turn on and off the mosfet, really fast to create maximum negative back emf.
