Women's Safety Panel - Increasing Women's Safety Together with the Glasgow Girls Club + Wise Women
Women's Safety Survey App
This year Team GGC have teamed up with Thriving Survivors and One4Growth to bring about a series of panelist events that focus on women's safety. We will also look at gender-based approaches, with women's voices being at the centre.
Our aim is to keep the conversation on women's safety going, and hopefully act as a catalyst for conversations outwith, so that we can culminate our findings and take them to the Scottish Government.
In this our first event of 2022, we welcomed Dawn Fyfe, Strategic Development Worker from Wise Women and Amy Rew, Chief Executive Officer of Glasgow Girls Club (yes, there is a Glasgow Girls Club too and we have united in a super important shared vision with more to come) to the launch of their survey to discover women's experiences of safety in the public spaces around our city
Here's some info lifted from the campaign brief: "Increasing Women's Safety Together" and I would urge you to have a watch of this video, download the app here and get involved in the discussion on how safe you feel in Glasgow's public spaces.
"It is women’s human right to feel safe in public spaces. A lack of safety in public spaces is harmful to women’s physical and emotional wellbeing and reduces their freedom. Understanding women’s experiences of everyday harassment and abuse in public spaces is vital to ensure strategic approaches to safety are effective and confront and reduce abusive behaviour.
Campaign aims
The campaign aims to collate information from women about their experiences of harassment and abuse in public spaces in the city. This includes pubs and clubs, public transport and the street. Initial findings from the survey will be launched on international women’s day. Women who have participated, and have indicated they would like to be involved, will be invited to take part in focus groups to find solutions that will make the city safer.
Who is the campaign aimed at?
The campaign is aimed at any woman, from the age of 13 years old, who experiences harassment and abuse in Glasgow. Women do not have to live in Glasgow to use the app. We welcome information from women who are visiting the city. We are keen that women who are accessing services, such as homelessness, are also involved in the survey. We would value their input and are keen to support services to enable this to happen."
