Pregnancy Sleep Positions: Left Side vs. Back Sleeping

Did you know your sleeping position affects your baby’s oxygen supply? 🤰🌬️

As you enter the second and third trimesters, the weight of your growing uterus increases. When you sleep flat on your back, that weight can press down on the inferior vena cava—the large vein that returns blood to your heart. This can lead to dizziness for you and, more importantly, reduced blood flow for your baby.

Why the Left Side is Best:

Optimal Circulation: It keeps the pressure off your major veins and the liver.

Placenta Health: It ensures the placenta receives the maximum amount of nutrients and oxygenated blood.

Reduces Swelling: Better blood flow helps your kidneys flush out waste, reducing edema in your feet and hands.

The Transition Tip: If you wake up on your back, don't panic! Just gently roll back onto your left side. Using a pregnancy pillow behind your back can help prevent you from rolling over in your sleep.

Question of the Day: Are you a side sleeper or a back sleeper? Tell me your struggle below! 👇
