Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (R.A) ☪️ #islam #umaribnkhattab #saudiarabia #shorts
STORY OF UMAR IBN AL-KHATTAB (R.A) : Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) was a monumental figure in Islam, transitioning from a fierce opponent to the second Caliph (634–644 AD) known for his unwavering integrity, strict justice, and humble leadership. He revolutionized the Islamic state by establishing public ministries, a police force, and the Hijri calendar, while leading a simple life despite governing a fast-expanding empire.
Early Life and Character
Background: Born into the Banu Adi clan of Quraish, Umar was known for his physical strength, literacy, and skill in wrestling and horsemanship.
Birth Date: Sources vary slightly, but he is generally believed to have been born around 583–584 CE. Other sources suggest approximately 586 CE or 579 CE.
Birthplace: Mecca, Arabia.
Pre-Islamic Life: He was a prosperous merchant who travelled to Syria and Yemen and was respected as a sharp arbitrator.
Opposition to Islam: Initially, he fiercely opposed Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and persecuted new Muslims, believing Islam divided the Quraish.
Conversion to Islam
The Turning Point: While on his way to kill Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to end the conflict, he learned his sister and brother-in-law had converted.
Acceptance: After visiting them and hearing verses from Surah Taha, his heart softened, and he instantly embraced Islam, instantly transforming from a foe to a fierce protector of the faith.
Leadership as Caliph
"Al-Faruq": Known as "The Criterion" (Al-Faruq) for distinguishing truth from falsehood, his rule saw the expansion of Islam into Persia, Syria, and Egypt.
Just Governance: He was famous for his strict justice, often walking the streets of Medina at night to check on the poor and needy.
Innovations: He established the public ministry system, introduced the police force, and was known for holding officials accountable, regardless of their status.
RELATION BETWEEN UMAR AND PROPHET MUHAMMAD 🫂 :
Umar ibn al-Khattab was a senior companion, close advisor, and father-in-law to Prophet Muhammad. Initially an opponent, he became a pillar of early Islam, serving as the second Rashidun Caliph. Their relationship was strengthened by the marriage of Umar's daughter, Hafsa bint Umar, to Muhammad, making her a Mother of the Believers.
Key Aspects of Their Relationship:
Conversion and Loyalty: After converting to Islam in Mecca, Umar became one of the most prominent supporters of the Prophet, known for his bravery, intellect, and role as a defender of the Muslim community.
Family Relation: Hafsa bint Umar married Muhammad, solidifying the familial bond between them.
Role as Advisor: Umar was a leading advisor to the Prophet and was recognized for his judgment, with some traditions noting that his perspectives often aligned with the Quranic revelations.
Caliphate and Succession: Upon the Prophet's death, Umar was a key figure in supporting Abu Bakr as the first Caliph, whom he later succeeded.
Appreciation: Prophet Muhammad was reported to have held Umar in high regard, often calling him one of his closest companions.
Upon the Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) death, Umar ibn al-Khattab was in profound shock, denial, and immense sorrow, initially refusing to believe the news. His intense love caused him to threaten those saying the Prophet died, comparing it to Moses' 40-day absence, until Abu Bakr reminded him of the Quranic reality of death.
Here is how Umar (RA) reacted and cried:
Initial Denial and Shock: Umar was so deeply distressed that he fell into shock, unable to believe the Messenger had passed. He threatened to kill anyone who said the Prophet was dead, saying he had only gone to his Lord for a time.
The Breaking Point: When Abu Bakr (RA) recited Ayah 3:144 ("Muhammad is no more than a messenger; other messengers have gone before him..."), Umar fell to his knees, overwhelmed by the realization of the loss.
Previous Weeping (Poverty): Earlier, seeing the marks of a coarse mat on the Prophet's back, Umar cried, saying, "O Prophet of Allah, why should I not cry that this mat has left marks on your side and I see little in this cupboard? Caesar and Khosrau live among fruits and springs, while you are the Messenger of Allah and His chosen, yet this is your cupboard".
Later Longing: Years later, when Bilal (RA) performed his first adhan after the Prophet's death, Umar wept intensely, along with the rest of Medina, deeply moved by the remembrance of the Prophet's time.
Umar’s love was so profound that in his final moments, he asked to be buried beside the Prophet (ﷺ). 💔
Ahhh really I'm feeling so different this story will break every Muslim's heart....
Legacy and Death 💔
Stature: He is considered one of the most powerful and influential caliphs in Muslim history, embodying the principles of a "just leader".
Martyrdom: Umar was assassinated by a Persian slave named Abu Lu'lu'a in 644 AD while leading the morning prayer. 💔
