Qiuxin HX108-2 - Seven transistor radio kit
After seeing an American gentleman on Youtube with one of these amongst his vintage TV & radio vlogs, I thought I'd buy one (for about £2.73) for a laugh.
It's a 7-transistor design. My kit arrived with a totally wrong resistor & another one missing that I was able to provide from stock. I /we (with Mr Chippie here) tested every single component before soldering in & found all the 22nf capacitors to be 33nf, though marked 22nf. We decided to replace them with ones from stock that weren't 50% out of tolerance. Six of the seven transistors were different from what was shown on the circuit diagram, three of which was definitely lower gain than those specified. I installed transistors from stock exactly as specified rather than the dubious ones supplied.
Upon assembly there are 5 current check test points which after test are solder inked. Everything tested OK. Upon power-up we were greeted with radio type cracking & a quick tune-up with our signal generator both at 465khz (I.F.) & then at the centre of the MW band brought super results.
I'm in the middle of nowhere here in Lincolnshire (UK) with no local transmitters, but was able to pick up BBC Radio Norfolk, a local radio station on relatively low power well outside it's intended service area. Comparing with my expensive & high performance HMV Marlborough transistor radio, the sensitivity is certainly at least equal, though of course the HMV quality with it's huge speaker wins in that direction.
Chinese instructions coped with. Amateur radio friend Masrk (G7NDJ) was also here over the weekend & used his smartphone & google translate app to help with some of the Chinese, especially in deciding which coil went where!
Anyway, ours works great, but definitely not for the beginner.
