Gujarat’s tourism transformation: Culture, heritage & sustainability
Gujarat, a land steeped in rich heritage and stunning landscapes. With 18 cr tourists visiting the state in 2024, it has emerged as a premier tourist destination. The state has benefited from the policies of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and aggressive tourism promotion under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The state government's focus on holding regular tourism promotion events like "Khushboo Gujarat Ki," which showcases the vibrant culture and stunning beauty of the state, has played a big role in attracting tourists.
The Gujarat government now focuses on promoting little-known destinations like those on the Barda Circuit. This circuit includes places like the Navlakha Sun Temple, the ancient Ghumli ruins, Ashapura Temple, Sonkansari Dera, and Jambuvanti Caves. To bring in tourists, infrastructure including roads and hotels is being constructed with an investment of ₹ 40 crore. These iconic sites are set to be developed into prominent tourist destinations, inviting visitors to explore Gujarat's rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
As part of its plans to widen the number of tourist attractions in the state, the government has allocated ₹ 2.5 crores to develop the Gandhi Corridor. This will take tourists to places connected to the life of the Father of the Nation .
Like the Gandhi Corridor, the Mokarsagar Wetland, one of the most thriving ecological sites in Porbandar, is being transformed into a sustainable eco-tourism destination. This showcases the region’s rich heritage and wildlife. Alongside this, Gujarat’s natural wonders, from the picturesque wetlands to the serene Asmavati Riverfront, are weaving a story of sustainable tourism. The state is creating vibrant destinations for travelers seeking both breathtaking vistas and tranquility.
