Year 3 asparagus: what to expect

Asparagus is one of the few perennial vegetables (read “no seed starting yearly”) that comes back year after year for up to 20 years. Asparagus, its crown, is frost hardy down to 0F. Harvest in early spring before the heat arrives. Best suited for growing in North Texas (zone 8) or cooler zones, adaptable to higher zones. Here is the Mary Washington variety which is a heirloom with plants likely to produce berries (and thus seeds). They say atleast 5 plants per person? But often space (asparagus needs a dedicated bed) is the first concern.
