HEX - Hex causes disadvantage on ability checks for an ability of your choosing. The key word here is "ability checks." This is not savings throws and therefore this feature does not have as much use in combat. There are still a few uses that you could take advantage of if your situation is set up for it. NOTE* Most of this is hard to test in game because Larian does not show us the behind the scenes ability checks, but these are POSSIBLY some situations you may be able to use hex to your advantage:

1 - Use hex wisdom and the hexed opponent will be less likely succeed in their perception checks when they attempt to perceive someone who is hidden. So if you have one of your characters sneaking up on an opponent, you could hex them and it will help.
2- You could use hex strength on an enemy that you think is going to / capable of shoving you or your party members. It can be hard to predict this though, but some of you may be able to use it to your advantage!
3 - Initiative rolls are dexterity ability checks. Therefore you could hex an enemy before combat begins, and when combat does begin that enemy will have disadvantage on their dex initiative roll and likely place further back in the order of turns.
4- Some spells may require an enemy to do an ability check to escape it. An example would be web. When you cast web on an opponent they will at first be forced to do a saving throw to determine whether or not they get caught, after that occurs, according the 5th edition rules, they will then have to do a strength ability check to escape the web. It is hard to test this in BG3, but if this is the case then use a strength hex on an opponent that is webbed or is going to be webbed would help you keep them stuck for a longer duration.
