Thank you for bearing with this! I am but a simple writer with minimal artistic ability, but Zhongli's character from Genshin Impact shook me so hard that I had to try and make something for him for his birthday.

Storyline:
PLEASE note that the story is up to your interpretation!

- Guizhong, Zhongli’s best friend during the Archon War, pleads with Zhongli to understand and emphasize with humans as they protect their followers from the monstrosities of the war. She dies in the same war.

- In present day, the Liyueans struggle with their own lives. Zhongli beholds and remembers all of this, as he is a god, and is pained by the human struggle. He is interrupted by a young Xiangling who wants him to try his dish, reminding him of the human spirit.

- Zhongli goes about his day in present day, ending it in Mt Aozang where he, Guizhong and the Adepti used to dine and drink.

- In the past, Guizhong and Zhongli had a deep friendship. I imagine she pranks his himbo ass a lot. When he finds out that Havria’s own people mercy killed her, he attacks her remaining followers but is stopped by Guizhong.

- In present day, Zhongli (as per his story quest) receives and grants closure to Havria by putting her relics to rest in the graveyard of Archons, Guyun.

- In the past, Zhongli stops Ganyu from killing Xiao, whom he just freed from an abusive master / rival Archon. Despite them being enemies, Zhongli offers Xiao freedom and meaning.

- in the past, Venti comes to Liyue. Zhongli thinks he’s in trouble, offers help but learns that Venti is just here to have a drink with him. He shocked that an Archon could be so irresponsible, but ends up having such a good time that the seven original Archons make a habit of meeting in Liyue for drinks (all canon). The other five archons slowly die out and so does the practice of having drinks.

- Guizhong leaves a locked dumbbell for Zhongli with all her knowledge, as she does. Zhongli cannot open it. During one of his visits to her grave, he officially meets Ningguang. They both find each other comfortingly familiar and hit it off.

- I imagine them as platonic friends here, but it is again up to your interpretation.

- In the present, Zhongli mingles with the humans of Liyue and makes his mark on each of their lives.

- Zhongli and Ningguang become close friends and eventually go on a walk together in Jueyun Karst

- They are ambushed by treasure hoarders who “kill” Zhongli and gravely injure Ningguang, taking their Visions.

- Zhongli, who canonically has hyper durability / regenerative powers compared to humans, rains hell down on the treasure hunters before they can kill Ningguang.

- Ningguang recognizes that Zhongli used powers without his Vision and the implications that entails: he is Morax. She is understandably shaken by betrayal and reverence, and by the time she recovers, Zhongli has left, thinking that she no longer wanted anything to do with him.

- They are both big sad. Ningguang recalls that during her childhood in poverty and desolation, it was he who had silently helped her. (Canonically Zhongli has kept tabs on her since childhood because of her strength and determination)

- Zhongli goes about his normal routine, once again stopping at Aozang to reminisce.

- Ningguang arrives with all the Liyue humans whom Zhongli has made an impact on, to celebrate his birthday.
