Dr. James B. Hill, is the son of David Hill, the youngest son of Napoleon Hill and Florence Hornor. From 1973 to 1976, he attended Vanderbilt University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. At graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and commenced service in the Marines as a field artillery officer. He later earned a Master of Science in mathematics from the Naval Postgraduate School before teaching at the United States Naval Academy.
As an officer, he held command twice, led a team of military advisors into Southeast Asia, briefed the Soviet General Staff, served as aide-de-camp to two Marine Corps generals, and served in many critical billets at the battery, battalion, and regimental level. In 1995, Dr. Hill retired from the Marine Corps after 26 years of service to study medicine. He retired from medicine in June of 2022 and continues researching the life of Napoleon Hill and is putting together the Napoleon Hill Papers.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Hill has been writing and speaking about Napoleon Hill’s Science of Personal Achievement. His association with this philosophy began at 12 when his grandfather placed a copy of Think and Grow Rich into his hands and told him to read it. However, more than a dozen years passed before he understood the extraordinary nature of his grandfather’s gift. What Hill learned from reading Think and Grow Rich changed his life twice --- once when he was 23 and again when he was 45.
