Grootrivierpoort Eastern Cape South Africa Overlanding Road Trip

An overland road trip through the magnificent and remote Grootrivierpoort Pass in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Some of the most incredible natural scenery, remote farming communities, rivers and unbelievable solitude. We seldom saw another person for the entire 5 to 6 hours that negotiating the route requires.

While a 4x4 vehicle isn't a necessity for most of the route, those parts that do need 4WD, REALLY need it, so it's impossible to do the full route without an off road vehicle with 4x4.

Some character filled small towns, like Steytlerville, Willowmore and Prince Albert make the road trip not all about off-road driving and gravel. There are some excellent restaurants, quality accommodation and welcoming people, which all makes for a road trip well worth making.
