Stripping the budget to the NIH is not only an attack on our healthcare, but to all who depend on these treatments and research, including many of us in the LGBTQ+ community. Specifically, these cuts predominantly affect the areas of cancer, Alzheimer's, and asthma research. Here are a few fast facts: At least 1.9 million new cancer cases are diagnosed and over 600,000 cancer deaths occur in the United States each year. Alzheimer's is the 7th leading cause of the death in the US each year. On average, 10 people in the U.S. die from asthma each day.
