The 6G War in India: Why Apple & Jio Are Fighting?

India’s 6 GHz spectrum has triggered a major 6G war between US tech giants like Apple, Meta and Amazon who want the entire band to be unlicensed for faster Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, and Indian telcos like Jio and Vodafone Idea who want portions auctioned for 5G and future 6G because India’s mobile networks handle some of the world’s highest data loads. The government must decide whether to keep it fully free, split it or auction part of it, a move that will shape India’s connectivity for the next decade. Meanwhile, big tech is shifting fast as OpenAI and Jony Ive have hired over 40 Apple hardware engineers for a new premium device planned for 2026, Google has enabled cross-platform file sharing through Quick Share with AirDrop, and Google Assistant will shut down in March 2026 as Gemini takes over. On the hardware side, SMIC warns of a memory chip shortage next year due to AI demand which is pushing smartphone prices higher globally, while China stays cheaper thanks to large-scale manufacturing, shorter supply chains, high competition and government incentives.
