The Man Who Stared Back

It started with a single, eerie notification: "You're being watched." Gina glanced around her dimly lit apartment. No one. Brushing it off as a prank, she silenced her phone. But the notifications kept coming. "Turn around," one read. Her heart raced as she froze, unwilling to look back. Instead, she focused on her screen. Then, she saw it. The reflection of a man in her phone’s black screen—his eyes, locked on hers. She spun around. Nothing.

Her phone buzzed again: "Don’t look away." Her hands trembled as she covered the screen. But the air behind her grew colder, her neck prickling as if someone were breathing down it. She whispered, "Who’s there?" No response. Then, her phone lit up one final time. A photo of her, sitting on her couch, from behind. Slowly, she turned off the phone. The breathing stopped. But her shadow on the wall... had a smile.
