How an Airstream is Made - Behind-the-scenes factory footage

How is an Airstream built? The way an Airstream is made has remained pretty much the same over the last 90 years. An Airstream Travel Trailer - or 'Silver Bullet' - is built by hand using techniques inspired by aircraft construction. Each rivet is driven by hand - all 3000 of them!

The factory tour of the Airstream Manufacturing Plant in Jackson Center, Ohio, took place in 2018. However, changes at Airstream UK meant that the film remained in the vaults unseen for three years.

In 2021, a visit to Lowdhams in Nottingham, UK, allowed me to put the final touches to the video and finally show it to you.

Please bear in mind that Airstream Travel Trailer construction has since moved to a brand new facility in Jackson Center - this video is filmed in the former factory. Certain aspects of the build may have changed as a consequence of the move, and because of improvements or updates made.

This video was originally commissioned and paid for by Airstream UK. It therefore charts the progress of a UK-specific Airstream. However, the same build techniques apply to all Airstreams, whether they are bound for North America, or whether they are Euro Airstream models.

As this video was commissioned by Airstream, it has been through all the correct channels for approval. Please note that filming is not normally permitted on a public factory tour.
