BJJ and core strength go hand in hand, in particular rotational strength is key.

When we talk about the importance of moving the hips in BJJ, we often forget its the core, and in particular, core rotation that is actually driving that hip movement.

One of my favourite tools for building rotational strength and specific movements patterns of BJJ is the gymball.

The main goal here is to develop rotational strength, but also picking up movements that are going to make how you move on the mat more fluid

When you watch the the video, you should recognise some of the movements you see on the mat. Particularly the hip drive and twist.

Also, these movements are great for developing balance and co-ordination when moving around in a top position, in particular number 6. Its a really challenge exercise, but once you get it down, your movement will see huge leaps in improvements.
