Enneagram Type 2 – Core & Subtypes Explained (Deep Dive)

In this episode let's dive deep into the psychology of *Enneagram Type 2*. What motivates 2s? Let's break it all down.

Much of type 2 was lost and put into type 9 and 7. The sad 2 was lost in dissemination of the Enneagram and often mistaken for 4. The hedonistic sides of Type 2 were left out and/or placed in 7 or 8 - and in particular the most hedonistic 2s tend to be so 258 or 278. Self-centered 2s were put into 7.

Passion (distorted negative emotion): Pride — Thrives on the admiration and recognition of others, striving constantly to earn it.
Fixation (distorted limited beliefs): Flattery — Seeks the affirmation of others.
Conviction (distorted habitual behaviors): Goodness — Must show goodness.
Trap: Freedom — Whilst depending upon others for constant approval, 2s fight such dependency to be free from social disapproval and approval.

Holy Virtue: Holy Humility — Humility is the natural way to overcome pride. The person recognizes to bear the same perfect essence as that of others.
Holy Ideas: Holy Freedom — The realization of one’s own essence frees the individual from reliance on others’ approval and opens the way to living in harmony with cosmic laws.
Holy Action: Holy Generosity — Acting in a generous way and helping someone.
Liberation: The Way of Liberty — A practice of focusing on constructing lives conductive to well-being.

Type 2s show empathy by tuning into others’ needs—often before they’re spoken. Sensitive to subtle cues, they pick up on when someone needs support and step in with care. They not only offer help directly but also rally others to assist. Naturally warm and attuned, they act like emotional mirrors, channeling kindness like fairy godparents of the Enneagram.

In leadership positions 2s lead by cheerleading and appreciating people.
