#TheFinders #Lelandblue #LelandMichigan #glassslag #Michiganrocks
From 1870 to 1884, the Leland Lake Superior Iron Co. operated an iron smelter north of the river mouth, supplied with ore from the Upper Peninsula and charcoal made from local maple and beech timber; the charcoal was produced in fourteen beehive kilns, which produced up to 40 tons of iron per day.
The Leland blue glass slag has been a collectable stone for some many years. It is used in jewelry making, collecting, polishing and more ! Many visit the local beach areas to search for Leland blue glass slag along with the many other beautiful colors of glass slag in Lake Michigan.
Hope you enjoy the video as much as I did searching for the beautiful Leland Blue ! Thanks much fro watching :-)
