I spoke to the late great Jerry Parr, the agent in charge who pushed Reagan into the limo and made the fateful (and correct) decision to take Reagan to George Washington Hospital instead of merely back to the White House. Parr, a rookie agent during the JFK era who briefly guarded Jackie (and Marguerite Oswald right after the assassination), was the SAIC of PPD during the Carter-early Reagan era and was replaced by his deputy who went to the hospital soon after the shooting, the late great Robert DeProspero who I was also blessed with the opportunities to both speak and write to.
