Making a Victorian Hat... when you don't know how to make a hat!
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
Something I've learned since starting historical costuming is that accessories really pull a look together. I'm slowly trying to improve myself on this, adding hats, gloves, belts, and hopefully one day jewellery. Hats, however, can be really intimidating. Or so I thought at first. Turns out, it's not necessarily too hard to pull together a hat that can pass as nice! And they sure are fun to trim. This is only the second hat I've ever made from scratch but I think it turned out well. The pattern for it is on Patreon, if you're interested!
Here are the materials I used: velvet fabric, batting, heavyweight interfacing, some fabric from the matching ensemble, some tarlatan for last minute stiffness, plastic wire, glue gun, and a variety of feathers. Hats don't take a lot of fabric either! Anyway, I hope this was easy-ish to follow, but let me know down below if you have any questions. I think in the future I can start being a bit bolder with trimmings to be more like the originals.
