A large tree near Dora’s farm was uprooted and fell due to strong winds. At first glance, this might seem like a simple event, but in our region, things are a bit more complicated. According to an old customary rule still respected in many villages, the first person who sees a fallen tree is considered its owner—provided they place a stone on it to symbolically mark their claim. This morning, however, several residents from the village of Chilte came to take the wood from this fallen tree, including branches that Zivar had already cut earlier—seemingly unaware of this rule, or perhaps choosing to ignore it. The people from Chilte argued that the tree belonged to the land surrounding their village, and therefore believed they had the right to take it. A heated verbal confrontation broke out between the two sides—a clear sign of how conflicts between local customs and property claims can disturb the peace among neighbors. So now the question arises: in such a situation, who is truly in the right?
