[NEWS] Ten Thousand Gather in Prayer at Tzu Chi Buddha Bathing Ceremony
Amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, a global energy crisis, increasingly frequent natural disasters and rising living costs, many people are under immense pressure. Like water, Buddhist teachings soothe and nourish the heart, cleansing the mind of its afflictions. In these uncertain times, the Buddha Bathing Ceremony offers a place of calm, drawing people closer to the Buddha and renewing their hearts.
More than 10,000 people gathered at the National Hockey Stadium today for the Tzu Chi KL & Selangor Buddha Bathing Ceremony. Marking Tzu Chi’s 60th anniversary, the Chapter also connected live with Jing Si Hall in Hualien, Taiwan, joining participants globally in prayer for peace and harmony.
Minister of Transport | YB Loke Siew Fook
In many places where help is needed,
Tzu Chi is there.
They’re always the first to arrive and the last to leave.
I believe Tzu Chi’s contributions to
charitable work in Malaysia are evident for all,
and have earned the respect of people of all races.
Everyone is willing to help others,
to support and contribute to society.
I think this spirit is truly commendable,
and I hope Tzu Chi will keep it up.
The Buddha bathing formation featured a three-tier concentric circle, symbolising unity and the Dharma spreading throughout the universe. Led by venerable Dharma Masters, the congregation paid homage to the Buddha and received his teachings.
Chairman of the Malaysian Buddhist Association (KL/Selangor Branch) | Ven. Ming Ji
Sixty years marks a full cycle.
We’ve seen the Dharma
move from remote mountain temples
into society and among the people.
At its core, Buddhism is about
serving the community and benefitting all beings.
As Buddhist teachings remind us,
stay true to our original aspiration, only then can we
walk further on this path.
Buddhist Chief High Priest of Malaysia | Ven. Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana
Tzu Chi is doing wonderful service to mankind.
At the same time,
they bring (people) together to build a healthy society.
As a Buddhist leader,
I’m very proud to participate,
and together as one family
to serve the community.
“May we never forget the initial spirit of the bamboo bank. May we always remember the great vow of the Tzu Chi path.” This year’s theme reflects how 50 cents a day laid the foundation for Tzu Chi’s global missions today. Leaders and members of the public were invited to witness this journey together.
Deputy CEO of Tzu Chi KL & Selangor | Tan Pei Kee
Over the past 60 years,
Tzu Chi’s acts of compassion and Great Love
have set foot in 139 countries,
bringing help to countless people in distress.
The spirit of the bamboo bank – small kindness to accomplish great good,
teaches us that everyone
can give with love.
When each person
nurtures one kind thought each day,
and when each act of kindness
accumulates and converges,
it creates an immeasurable force of love.
Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur | Most Rev. Julian Leow
I think all these purifying our hearts,
our minds through prayers,
all these help us to be peacemakers.
Very often, our prayers
ask for things.
And nothing wrong with that.
But I think it has to be always,
to glorify God.
So prayers, I believe, can move mountains.
It can really have the effect,
if we’re truly selfless in what we ask, asking for others.
Deputy Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia | James Buu
Some say the most beautiful thing about Taiwan is its people.
Well, I must say
that because of Tzu Chi,
Taiwan has become even more beautiful.
In Malaysia’s multiracial
and multireligious society,
Tzu Chi has demonstrated
its unique spirit of humanitarian care.
I believe this has played a crucial role in promoting stability,
racial and religious harmony,
and mutual respect in Malaysia’s society.
With the ceremony moved from Jing Si Hall to the stadium, the morning and evening sessions are expected to welcome five times more participants. As collective goodwill filled the venue, hearts united in prayers for a world free from disasters.
