Peace Train Intro Riff

Hey there, I’m Tomas Michaud founder of Real Guitar School. Today, I have for you a classic acoustic guitar lick by the artist formerly known as Scott Stevens. This is the intro to Peace Train.

Okay, let’s break it down. We will start off, I will break it in three parts. The first part sounds like this (strumming). So first just get the notes. I'm using my first and second fingers on the fourth string and the second string. These were all parts on those two strings. That’s the open B string and D string so first and second finger. By the way, it’s warm summer day here in San Francisco Bay area but the show must go on.

Now the second and third finger on the third fret and then the fifth fret, such a nice notes. So get the basic rhythm after that (pah, pah, pah, pah, pah, pah) and then add that last slide. I’m sliding from the third fret up to the fifth so its pah, pah then I hit on the third and slide up.

Let’s go on to the second part. Now were on the third string and the first string that’s a high E string and the G string. So again let’s just get the notes. It’s first and second fingers just like the last lick then add this little rhythmic figure. I’m actually hammering onto the third string so I’m hitting with my thumb. I’m using my second finger probably it doesn't matter which finger to use for the high string.

And now for the final part, we will start on the fifth fret. So second and third finger and I’m sliding up using my pinky for the high note there and ending right there on the seventh fret before I go down. Do it again nice and slow, pinky. So I’d recommend you practice each of these parts separately then put them all together, come back and I’ll play nice and slow. You can try playing along with me. The thing that you play along see where you went off, stop the video, go back and practice some more, try it again see if you get closer, stop the video and practice some more. You’ll get it just be patient and keep coming back. So here’s the complete version, nice and slow. Ready, go.
