The problem with being an overachiever | Lessons for premeds
Overachievement is so praised in the premed community that students rarely think about the problem with being an overachiever. They simply tend to focus on taking tough class after tough class and participating in loads of extracurriculars.
But at some point, you'll hit a wall. Perhaps you'll get a B or C in a class, have fewer clinical hours than you wanted, or disappoint your parents or yourself. It'll be especially hard to swallow these difficulties because being an overachiever is such a big part of your identity. And therein lies the problem: your self-worth should not be defined by how much you achieve.

WHO WE ARE:
Shemmassian Academic Consulting (SAC) was founded by Dr. Shirag Shemmassian, a medical school admissions expert with nearly 20 years of experience helping thousands of students get into top programs such as Harvard, Mayo, and UCSF. Despite a roughly 40% medical school matriculation rate nationally, the SAC team’s approach has helped over 90% of their students get into med school—the first time they apply. SAC has been featured on The Washington Post, US News and World Report, and NBC.
