Cuba Libre - The Classic Highball That's More Than Just a Rum and Coke

Like most classic cocktails this one has a dubious origin. The excepted tale says that it was invented shortly after the Cuban victory in the Spanish-American war. It's a nice story, but who knows if it's true. It was, however, named after the victory cry. It became a popular drink in the states during the 40's when most other products were rationed. It's not to be confused with it's little brother, the rum and coke. The difference is simple, but it has a very different flavor profile. See if you don't agree. Next time you make up this highball, be sure to do it the Libre way. Salud!

4oz Coke
