Why Spider-Man Hates The Carnage Family

Spider-man, with the simple wisdom of his deceased uncle, has been the thesis for what superheroing should be in the Marvel Universe. It’s not enough to have great power, you have to have the responsibility to use that power properly. For Peter Parker that has meant constantly evaluating his decisions and their impact. That’s why when he accidently gives an alien symbiote with a penchant for violence a free ride to earth, he feels responsible for that. Peter’s sense of responsibility rubbed off a little bit on Venom, his old symbiote, who shares that sense of responsibility for his own more murderous offspring Carnage. Venom and Spider-man teamed up to beat Carnage before, but in the Maximum Carnage event that took place in 1993 Spider-man’s principles were tested by the comic book zeitgeist of the time. The 90s favored cynical, violent anti-heroes that considered extreme measures where what was needed and they were the only ones with the guts to do it. Carnage teaming up with Shriek, Demogoblin, Doppelganger, and Carrion forces Spider-man to team up with Venom, Black Cat, Mobius, and Nightwatch to test Peter’s resolve. Fortunately Cloak & Dagger, Captain America, Deathlok, and Iron Fist are around to remind Peter of who he really is. What do you think about this event?
