Dan's Story - Youngcare

A motorbike accident at 18 years of age changed Dan’s life forever. Paralysed from the chest down, Dan has been forced to adapt to a drastically different reality. After living with family for years in Gladstone, Dan’s made his long-awaited move to Brisbane.

“I was just existing back home. I was stagnant at the time. But now, I’m jumping into everything!” – Dan. Now living in a disability apartment in Newstead, Dan works as a teacher aide, is an avid wheelchair rugby athlete and is an active member of his inner-city community.

Thanks to Youngcare supporters, Dan was funded a grant to help with his big move. “I needed Youngcare’s help to make the transition to living independently smoother by easing the financial burden.” Funding for moving truck services, a washing machine and dryer, relieved some of Dan’s worries through a pivotal time.
