Mike Tyson predicted 10 years ago, Floyd Mayweather would be today's 'Best fighter of the world'

The Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao boxing match touted as the 'biggest fight of the decade' has tickets going on sale to the public on Friday, April 24. The twelve round bout is scheduled for May 2nd, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The announcement came today after both camps resolved their differences with the fight contract and how tickets will be allotted.

While there's plenty of debate as to which elite competitor will actually win the bout (Mayweather is the early favorite at -210, via Odds Shark), both former heavyweight championship boxers Muhammad Ali and George Forman are rooting for the 36 year old Pacquiao (57-5 with two drawn and 38 knockouts).

But in 2005, during a media interview at the BET 25th Anniversary television broadcast, boxing icon and also former heavyweight championship boxer Mike Tyson said Mayweather, now 38 years old (47-0 with 26 knockouts) will be the last man standing.

When a reporter asked Tyson if he had a favorite boxer, he responded that he liked Floyd Mayweather and considered him to be the "best fighter in the world." Tyson also predicted that every ten years, boxing fans will experience a great boxing match.

Fast forward to 2015, we're nine days away from the long-anticipated Mayweather Jr.- Pacquiao fight and a chance to see if Tyson's predictions will hold true. The championship fight is expected to yield more than $70 million in gate receipts, compared to the previous record of $20 million for Mayweather’s 2013 fight against Canelo Alvarez.
