ChatGPT Traffic vs. Organic: Which Converts Better?
Most business owners don't even realize ChatGPT is sending traffic to their website. But here's the real question — is that traffic actually better than what you're getting from organic search? In this video, I'm showing you how to compare the two side by side in Google Analytics so you can see exactly which source is bringing you more engaged visitors.
Here's what to do:
Open Google Analytics and go to Reports
Click Acquisition, then Traffic Acquisition
Click the arrow on the first column and change it to Session source / medium
Type "chatgpt.com" in the search bar
Look at the engagement rate for that traffic
Now clear the search and type "google / organic"
Compare the two
Check which traffic source has the higher engagement rate. Which one keeps people on your site longer? Which one actually leads to conversions?
If ChatGPT traffic is outperforming organic, that means the people AI is sending to your site are more engaged than the people finding you through search. That's a big deal. Figure out which pages are getting cited and double down on that content.
If organic is still winning, it could mean your content isn't matching the expectation AI is setting before people click through. They're landing on your site expecting one thing and getting something else. That's fixable.
Either way, this takes less than a minute and now you have real data to make better decisions instead of guessing.
