Did Medieval Jews and Christians Ever Get Along?

#History #MedievalHistory #ReligiousHistory

While medieval Jews did suffer persecution and other hardships, this does not mean that violence and massacres were the norm in medieval Jewish-Christian Relations. Instead, those types of events disrupted a relatively peaceful norm wherein Jews and Christians were friends, neighbors, and business partners. In this video, I discuss the positive side of medieval Jewish-Christian relations in three different ways. First, I look at a charter for the city of Speyer that sought to bring Jews to settle in the city. Second, I discuss examples of Jews and Christians patronizing one another for arts and crafts. Third, I look at the types of intimate relationships medieval Jewish and Christian women had with one another. In short, we will see that people valued Jews in their communities and that Jews and Christians really trusted one another.
