How To Install Mobile Home Windows
In this video, I'm going to show you how to install mobile home windows. Keep in mind, not all vinyl replacement mobile home windows are the same and not all mobile homes are the same.
This is a mobile home from the early 80's and it uses windows with fins. So we went back with new construction windows because they have a nailing fin as well. The process of installing mobile home windows is quite easy.
Basically, you're going to remove the old windows, clean the siding where the old window was resting. I used acetone to clean off all the old caulk and butyl. Then I used denatured alcohol on the inside fins of the new windows to remove any oil, dirt or grime.
I used 100% clear silicone on the inside fins before installing the new windows. Make sure you always dry fit the new window before actually applying caulk. Because it can get really messing if the siding needs trimmed and you're trying to get the window into he opening. Don't ask me how I know!
So once you dry fit the window and are comfortable that it will fit, go ahead and caulk the nailing fin and slide the new window into place. In this case, I used 1 1/2" self-tapping hex head screws. I first put one screw at the top to hold the window up, then I put one on each side making sure the new window was tight against the siding. I checked to make sure I had plenty of silicone squeezing out. Once I was satisfied, I went ahead and put the rest of the screws into the new mobile home window.
The owner ordered these mobile home replacement windows through a lumber yard. We had checked for mobile home windows at Lowes and Home Depot, but weren't satisfied with the ones they had. And the new construction windows they carried were quite a bit higher than these.
