This black & white film is a G.I. Movie Weekly newsreel primarily featuring activities in the Pacific Theater. This is circa summer of 1945, after V-E Day in Europe but before the Japanese surrender.
Opening credits: RKO Pathe News (:07). Title: Manila - U.S. Troops pour in for Drive to Japan (:34). U.S. troops fresh from Europe, arrive via amphibious craft in Manila, Philippines (:39). Refreshments for the troops (1:09). A group of troops listen to an office speak (1:32). Women WACS (Women's Army Corps) at Clark Field in the Philippines (1:54). WACS talk with B-17 pilots of the Red Raiders, 22nd Bombardment Group, and climb on the wing to greet a P-51 Mustang pilot (2:15). Title: Ulster - Britain's Royal Family Visits North Ireland (2:26). King George 6 visits North Ireland (2:30). Queen Elizabeth climbs the stairs; speaks with the people in a crowd (2:52). Title: By Air - Telephone Lines Laid at Two Miles a Minute (3:07). Boxes are loaded onto a C-47 that contain telephone wire (3:12). Pilot in his C-47 (3:38). Wire is unwound from the air (4:00). Ground crews hook up the lines (4:09). Title: Yugoslavia - Tito Reviews Victory Parade in Belgrade (4:21). A parade in Yugoslavia (4:30). People are happy as troops and tanks march by (4:38). Flags of Russia, Britain, and America are carried past the people (5:04). Marshall Tito speaks in Belgrade Central Square (5:16). Title: 3rd Fleet Shells Japan! (5:27). American Third Fleet prepares to shell the Japanese home islands (5:32). U.S. Navy ships on the sea, Task Force 38 (6:00). Officers watch the action with binoculars (6:28). American planes on air to ground missions to attack mainland industries and airfields (6:31). Aerial POV footage of the attack on Japan (6:40). Admiral William Halsey speaks with sailors (7:06). U.S. Navy men on the move (7:13). Ships guns are raised (7:25). Ships guns are fired (7:28). Sailors get shells ready to be fired (7:38). U.S. ship continues to fire (7:45). End credit (8:00).
