Pixellation used to make render times reasonable, and give it a retro feel, but it ended up smushing all together so it just looks low quality.
Audio editing to achieve the spatial effect was done by hand. For the past few days I spent hours typing numbers from over 40 columns of a spreadsheet into audacity, which is still probably less work than coding a proper solution would have been, even if it is less satisfying and lacks reusability. May have some inaccuracies due to human error, developing the methods as i went along, misunderstanding the technology I'm using, and not quite getting the curves right using the "adjustable fader".

Other solutions to achieve same effect that I considered:

¶ Learning enough C++ to code a program or plugin to adjust the audio tracks' volume and inversion along a sine wave. Would involve math and learning how to access audio files from a notoriously difficult language that I have yet to learn. This would likely take a few weeks.

¶ Playing each of the orb's tracks through a bluetooth speaker while moving it by hand around my spatial audio microphone while watching the video, then combining the audio. Would be the fastest solution, easy, and fun, but noisy and inaccurate. Also it takes most of the challenge out of it.

¶ Doing the adjustments directly in sonic pi somehow may have worked, but I am unsure if I could make the timing match reliably (a must for how ambisonics calculate depth by comparing the w track with the y/z/x tracks.) It was a passing idea that I didn't really work out but could have been easier than the way I did it.
