Very few actors have been as lucky as Bryshere Y. Gray was when he landed his first acting role which came in FOX’s hit musical television series – Empire. In the series, he played Hakeem Lyon, the youngest son of Lucious and Cookie Lyon, who is a talented rapper and has what it takes to become a star but lacks discipline and guidance. The series also stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Grace Gealey and Trai Byers.

Bryshere Y. Gray also played Michael Bivins in The New Edition Story, 2017 miniseries on BET. The actor is also a musician and rapper who goes by the stage name – Yazz The Greatest.

Bryshere Yazuan Gray was born on the 28th of November, 1993 in Little Rock, Arkansas. After his parents’ divorce, his family relocated to West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bryshere was once an aspiring football player, even playing for his high school’s team at Overbrook High School. However, when he was sixteen years old, an injury limited his chances of playing the game and he switched to music instead.

He began performing as a street artist in order to raise money to help his single mother with their bills and other living expenses. It was this perseverance and hard work that led him into a partnership with Charlie Mack, a talent manager.

After, his parents’ divorce, Bryshere was raised by his mother, Andria Mayberry – an entrepreneur from Philadelphia. For over two decades, Andria also worked in the medical field.

Following her son’s success as an actor and musician, Andria wrote a book, Before Empire: Raising Bryshere “Yazz the Greatest” Gray. The book tells her personal stories as a single mother and the hurdles she had to overcome raising two children and being fortunate to have one of them become a star on a critically acclaimed show.

The American actor has an athletic body build and he weighs 71 kg, which is the perfect fit for his listed height of 5 ft 8 in. His other body measurements include Chest – 41 in, Arms/Biceps – 14 in and Waist – 33 in.

To maintain his physique, Bryshere visits the gym frequently and opts for high-intensity workouts. He mixes body weight exercises and weight lifting to keep things interesting. The actor has stated that he puts emphasis on body weight exercises the most for his physique and as a result, he can easily exercise for up to one and half hours – focusing on crunches pull-ups and push-ups.
