Walnut Hulling

For the last couple of years we have been taking our walnuts to this processing location and thought the grandkids would like to see how this machine removes the outside black hull of the walnut.

Then the hard shell is shipped to the walnut company to complete the process. Black Walnuts are completely biodegradable. The black hull can be spread on land as fertilizer or used to make natural dyes. The hard shell is eco-friendly and often used for abrasive cleaning, filtration media and recently discovered as a product for turf fields.
