The Doklam plateau might seem like just another remote area on the map, but its strategic importance is undeniable. Situated at the tri-junction of India, Bhutan, and China, this region became the centre of the 2017 Doklam Standoff when Chinese troops started constructing military infrastructure, including bunkers, storage facilities, and roads, in Bhutanese territory.
India intervened at Bhutan’s request, as the area directly impacts India’s security. Just below Doklam lies the Chicken Neck, a narrow corridor connecting mainland India to its northeastern states.
