Take two pieces of 300 mm long 6mm rod one piece in each hand, rotate the ends of both rods in the flame, melt the very end of the rod in the right hand and press it onto the end of the rod in the left hand, pull back slightly to keep the diameters similar. Repeat the operation to make a rod of equal length on each side of the rod in the left hand. By rotaing and using gravity gather the rods, hold the gather vertically and press with wide bladed tweezers the turn at 45°. Repeat on the other side.
Flame anneal in a cooler flame.
